Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
The designated arts agency of its region, Arts Council Napa Valley supports a thriving and diverse county of 135,000 people and 4.5 million annual visitors by expanding arts education, collaborating with arts organizations, and nurturing the development of artistic talent. Among its range of programs and initiatives, the Council acts as an arts information clearinghouse through its website and provides fiscal sponsorship and other support services and gatherings for arts organizations and artists. In 2010, it spearheaded a successful effort to pass a public art ordinance, whereby a fee of one percent of the cost of new building is used to fund public art, the first such ordinance in Napa County. The Council also launched a major new initiative in 2010, Napa Valley Arts, a month-long countywide celebration of arts and culture, promoting 115 arts events and seventy local partners in every discipline. The council supports in-school and out-of-school arts education programs and has entered into new contracts with the Napa County Office of Education to provide teaching artists for after-school programs.

Arts Council Napa Valley supports a county of 136,000 people and 4.5 million annual visitors, by working with the county’s arts organizations and artists to place art in public spaces, engage the community through local grantmaking, and ensure the county’s school districts provide arts education. This supplemental grant will help the organization recover from the fires that devastated the region in October 2017.

Arts Council Napa Valley supports a county of 136,000 people and 4.5 million annual visitors by working with the county’s arts organizations and artists to place art in public spaces, engage the community through local grantmaking, and ensure the county’s school districts provide arts education. It has recently completed a comprehensive strategic plan, with more focus on local artists, rather than the tourist industry, along with efforts to support an arts education master plan for the largest school district in the county. This renewal grant includes funds to plan and pilot a larger re-granting program, which could leverage additional funds from public and private funders. A three-year renewal grant at this level will have a significant impact on a county with few resources for individual artists and small arts organizations.
