Overview
The API Cultural Center, doing business as Oakland Asian Cultural Center, fosters inter-generational and cross-cultural dialogue, and strengthens the cultural identities of the East Bay Asian community. The organization reaches more than 30,000 people annually through its programs, which include two Asian and Pacific Islander cultural festivals, diverse weekly classes, an artist-in-residence program, visual arts exhibitions, and a host of community collaborations. With an Organizational Effectiveness grant, it will work with a customer relations management software provider and a marketing consultant to integrate its communications and fundraising efforts with donors, funders, rental clients, artists, and program participants.

Support for the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy. This organizational effectiveness grant will help the organization provide continuing equity, inclusion, and diversity training to staff.

The organization’s programming includes three annual festivals celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander traditional and contemporary artistic practices, weekly classes for all generations and families, an artist-in-residence program, visual arts exhibitions, in-school education residencies, and a host of community collaborations. With continued support, this cultural hub would improve its financial stability, plan for capital improvements, and deepen and expand its thriving programs.
