Overview
American Rivers has experienced financial challenges over the last several years. Its new CEO attributes this to two things. First, a strategic plan that lacks clear outcomes, is too broad in scope, and is without an implementation plan. Second, a lack of alignment between outcomes and fundraising capability. This organizational effectiveness grant would be used to hire a consultant to guide American Rivers board and staff through a planning process designed to address the deficiencies in the strategic plan and fundraising capabilities.

for the Hydropower Reform Coalition
Founded in 1992, the Hydropower Reform Coalition (a fiscally sponsored project of American Rivers), is a diverse consortium of more than 160 national, regional, and local conservation and recreation organizations dedicated to protecting and restoring rivers affected by hydropower dams. Working together, the coalition has protected or restored thousands of river miles, thousands of acres of watershed land, and countless opportunities for boating, fishing, and other recreational experiences. (Substrategy: Advance Conservation Protections.)
For development of a national tribal and Indigenous partnership expansion strategy
American Rivers protects wild rivers, restoring damaged rivers and conserving clean water for people and nature. It also serves as fiscal sponsor for the Hydropower Reform Coalition, a diverse consortium of more than 160 national, regional, and local conservation and recreation organizations dedicated to protecting and restoring rivers affected by hydropower dams. With this Organizational Effectiveness grant, American Rivers and the Hydropower Reform Coalition will both work with a consulting team to develop a Tribal and Indigenous partnership strategy.
