African Institute for Mathematical Sciences

For The Next Einstein Forum Africa SDGs Week

Overview
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is Africa’s first and largest network of centers of excellence for innovative postgraduate training in mathematical sciences. The Next Einstein Forum (NEF) is one AIMS’ strategic public engagement initiatives that connects science, society, and policy in Africa to the rest of the world for human development. This grant will support the NEF Africa Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Week, which aims to spotlight and celebrate youth-led initiatives and innovations that contribute to advancing the SDGs across Africa. By showcasing youth participation and leadership, this event also aspires to inspire, empower, and amplify the voices of young trailblazers who are driving positive change in their communities and beyond. The event will mobilize the NEF Ambassadors from 15 African countries across all regions (North, South, East, West and Central Africa); the outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations from the week will be shared at a NEF Ambassador’s session at the UN World Data Forum 2024 in Medellin, Colombia. Given the focus on youth and citizen-led initiatives in data, this grant is a collaboration between Hewlett's Evidence-Informed Policymaking and Inclusive Governance teams.
