Brett Johnson

Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of Public Investments

Brett Johnson serves as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of Public Investments at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. He works closely with other senior members of the investment team on external manager selection across both public and private asset classes, as well as asset allocation, investment strategy, and risk management.

Prior to joining the foundation, Brett was an investor focused on opportunities in public equity, credit, and real estate. As co-founder and chief investment officer at Alesco Global Advisors (AGA), an investment firm acquired by Lazard Asset Management, Brett was responsible for managing three mutual funds and overseeing the firm’s investment process. He began his career in equity research at Robertson Stephens. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics and international relations from Stanford University and a master’s degree of business administration in finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Brett serves as a member of the board of directors for the Resources Legacy Fund (RLF) and was a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
