MENLO PARK, Calif.—The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation announced today that Vidya Krishnamurthy will join the Foundation as director of communications.
Krishnamurthy comes to the Hewlett Foundation after nearly a decade with the Pew Research Center in Washington, D.C., most recently as its communications director. During that time, she helped the center significantly expand its U.S. and global audience and become one of the most trusted and widely cited sources of nonpartisan information about trends shaping America and the world.
“Vidya is a fantastic addition to our team,” said Hewlett Foundation President Larry Kramer. “Effective communication is critical to every aspect of philanthropy, and Vidya brings a unique skill set and deep understanding of today’s complex communications environment, which will enhance both our work and that of our grantees.”

At the Pew Research Center, Krishnamurthy was responsible for communications strategy and management, media relations, and brand strategy, as well as internal communications. Her previous experience cuts across a wide swath of communications issues, including public relations and nonprofit advocacy. She holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
She will begin work on January 12.
