Nancy Northup saw “unbelievable” support at the women’s marches in the United States and in Poland in 2016 in response to a controversial proposal to ban abortion. She leads the Center for Reproductive Rights and is hopeful because of the United States Supreme Court’s ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v Hellerstedt that protects access to safe and legal abortion. “Between people making their support visible and the protection of fundamental law,” says Northup, “we’re going to make sure that women do not go backwards.”
