Jonathan Garro

Data Officer, Grantmaking Analytics and Operations

Jonathan Garro is the Data Officer on the Grantmaking Analytics and Operations team at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Jonathan works across departments to enhance the effective use of grants data, fostering an environment of “collective smartness” — a culture of shared insights and collaboration that drives informed, impactful decision-making. He develops and implements data strategies, provides tailored analytical solutions to program teams, facilitates knowledge sharing, and supports storytelling that translates data insights into action.

Before joining the foundation, Jonathan spent more than 10 years with the International Services Department of the American Red Cross, leading various data initiatives for global disaster responses and long-term recovery programming. With expertise in building and optimizing information systems, he supported the IFRC and partner organizations through technical assistance, knowledge management, and innovative product development. He was frequently deployed overseas to support and lead information management teams tasked with collecting, analyzing, and sharing data to guide disaster response and humanitarian aid efforts.

Jonathan holds a master’s degree in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of San Diego. His service in both the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps highlights his long-standing commitment to volunteerism and capacity building in diverse settings.
