The New School

The Journalism + Design lab at The New School is dedicated to nurturing a resilient free press for the future. Through partnerships, openly licensed curricula, and hands-on mentorship, it builds pathways for more people to participate in their news and information ecosystems.

The Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy at the New School advances research to understand structural inequalities and fosters cross-disciplinary thinking about power, structure, design, politics, economics, and society. This grant supports “In Common: Romare Bearden and New Approaches to Art, Race & Economy” — a symposium, exhibition, and suite of media that considers the artist’s legacy and the significance of his art to the circumstances facing Black communities and other communities of color. The grant supports the Performing Arts Program overall strategic framework by elevating the relationships of artists, equity, and the solidarity economy.

Grounded in an analytical framework that recognizes the inseparability of politics, economics, and identity, the Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy at the New School is redefining how an economy should work. It identifies powerful opportunities for investment, and propels collaboration alongside field leaders to advance the realization of economic inclusion, social equity. and civic engagement for all people in the U.S. and across the globe.
