Oriki Arts

Oriki Arts is an arts and cultural organization dedicated to nurturing and sharing African cultures, traditions, and arts with communities across the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization deepens and celebrates participants’ ties to African culture and heritage through programs that include mentorship for youth, arts and culture workshops in local schools, theatrical productions, and an annual film festival. Each year, Oriki Arts reaches nearly 100,000 people. Support of Oriki Arts advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Oriki Arts shares and nurtures the dance, drama, music, poetry, chants and folk stories of African cultures and traditions with communities across the Bay Area. This organizational effectiveness grant supports internal capacity building to deepen the organization’s awareness, knowledge, skill, policies and practices around equity, inclusion, and diversity. Strengthening an organizations’ equity-focused competencies supports its practices and outcomes and contributes to a Bay Area arts ecosystem that has examined and reflects an understanding of equity in the arts. Support for Oriki Arts advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Oriki Arts (formerly Oriki Theater) is an African arts and culture organization dedicated to nurturing and sharing African cultures, traditions, and arts with communities across the Bay Area. Each year, Oriki Arts reaches about 100,000 audience and community members through a combination of outreach programs in local schools, mentorship programs for youth, a film festival, and a theatrical production season. Oriki Arts’ programs feature dance, drama, music, poetry, chant, folk stories, and drumming. This capacity building grant will enable Oriki Arts to engage in a strategic planning and leadership succession planning process, and advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
