The Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to transform journalism so that all people have access to news that helps them envision and build a more equitable and sustainable world. Solutions Journalism goes beyond the coverage of problems, providing valuable insights that are grounded in rigorous reporting to help communities understand credible options for tackling problems. SJN is leading a global shift by rebalancing journalism — shifting the daily signal of news from a focus on pathologies and deficits to creative responses and decentralized agency. This shift, both cognitive and emotional, can lead to changes across cultural, political, academic, policy, and practice spheres of influence. Further, solutions reporting helps people see the care, competence, and compassion that is such an underappreciated part of the collective human story, discover hidden and surprising pathways to connect over shared values, concerns and hopes, and adapt more quickly and skillfully to threats, needs and opportunities.
