Overview
The purpose of this grant is to support nonpartisan research and analysis of ways to address the emerging opportunity gap in our economy and society in a fashion that would drawn in ideas and build sponsorship across the political spectrum. Made in the form of an expenditure responsibility grant to Civic Enterprises, it would be led by John Bridgeland and Bruce Reed, who have served presidents of different parties as Domestic Policy Advisors and have established impeccable credentials for their ability to work with people from all parties to come up with better solutions to solve social problems. It is an experiment to see if this could be a promising example for similar future endeavors.

for credit recovery as a path to deeper learning
Civic works to increase high school graduation rates for all students, with emphasis on students whose high school completion rates have been historically lower than their peers. One approach to improving graduation rates is to support students in earning academic credits lost due to failing a course. This project will determine whether credit recovery, the opportunity to retake a course or do alternative coursework, is effective in helping students complete high school and move on to college or other postsecondary opportunities.
