Overview
Professors Seth Hill and Thad Kousser of the University of California at San Diego are leaders in the field of experimental political science. With support from the Hewlett Foundation, they will undertake randomized experiments in California’s 2014 primary to test whether and how it is possible to increase turnout in the new format of primary elections such that the electorate is more representative of the general electorate. Should this prove to be feasible, it would point the way to practical applications that others could use to increase primary turnout.
