Overview
Headwaters Economics provides the public and policymakers with credible economic analysis of natural resource issues. In the upcoming year, Headwaters' work will focus on three areas: (1) addressing federal payments to western counties so they are rewarded for maintaining the ecological integrity of public land rather than opening it to timber harvesting and fossil energy development, (2) informing policymakers and the public of the economic value of protecting public land from development, and (3) creating the economic case for siting renewable energy projects away from environmentally important land. Headwaters intends to share its analysis with many Hewlett Foundation grantees, local governments, public agencies, and the media.

for general operating support
Headwaters Economics provides the public and policymakers with credible economic analysis of natural resource issues. This renewal grant would produce and distribute analytic tools to grantees and the public, demonstrating the value of protected public lands and national monuments and provide rapid response information to grantees seeking to reform public lands policy, particularly in the area of fossil energy.
