Overview
This grant will provide operational support to the Trust for Public Land's (TPL) Montana Legacy Project, the largest private conservation purchase in United States history. The project is in its third, and final, year. When completed, over 310,000 acres of private land southwest of Glacier National Park in Montana will have been purchased for $466 million through a combination of federal, state and private funds. The lands being purchased support and array of threatened and endangered species and are considered a key component necessary to support the ecosystem upon which Glacier National Park depends. This is a joint project with the Nature Conservancy and other conservation organizations. The foundation has provided operational support for each of the last two years. This is a highly leveraged grant, focusing on supporting efforts to raise new funds for land acquisition, a key component of our plan. (New, $100,000/1; 20% of project budget)
