Overview
Living Jazz (formerly known as Rhythmic Concepts) provides jazz education and performance programs, including Jazz Camp West — an immersive summer camp experience for 250 participants aged 15 and older — and Jam Camp West, which offers music training for 90 middle school students of all levels of experience. Its Oakland Children’s Community Choir is an in-school program that offers a minimum of four months of free music education to more than 300 students at four Oakland public schools, and an annual Martin Luther King, Jr. tribute concert showcases local musicians and schoolchildren.

Living Jazz is a youth-serving jazz education program based in Oakland, California. Living Jazz provides instrumentalist, vocalist, and dance jazz education and performance programs, primarily for young people in Oakland. Its free in-school programming reaches more than 300 students at four public elementary schools in Oakland, and two immersive summer camp experiences in the Bay Area’s redwood forests reach an additional 300 youth of all grade levels and 250 adults. Support for Living Jazz aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy within the Program Delivery substrategy.
