Overview
Since its founding in 1975, the Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) has fostered research on philanthropy and the many domains shaped by philanthropy. This two-year grant will support the transfer, storage, preservation, and research accessibility of all the physical (paper and other materials) and digitized records of the Hewlett Foundation that are now (or eventually will be made) available to the public. The records of the Hewlett Foundation will join those of the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund, the Russell Sage Foundation, the W.T. Grant Foundation, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Markle Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, the Foundation Center, the Social Science Research Council, the Population Council, the Institute of International Education, the Asia Society, and many other nonprofit organizations. Copies of the foundation’s digital records will be transferred to the RAC through a system that will preserve, describe, and make them accessible in a manner consistent with sound archival practice.
