Overview
The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the U.S., challenging racial and economic injustice, and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. Their core work is to litigate on behalf of people wrongly convicted or charged with violent crimes, poor people denied effective legal representation, and others whose trials are marked by racial bias or prosecutorial misconduct. In addition, EJI establishes memorials - physical (i.e. museums) and virtual - to document the legacy of racism throughout the country. This grant provides general operating support to advance their work.
