Overview
Common Sense Media is a nonpartisan nonprofit providing information, tools, and a forum for families about the media they consume. Hewlett Foundation support this year will allow Common Sense Media to further strengthen and expand the Common Sense News, a media platform focused on deep reporting regarding how social policy affects children and families. This includes attention to topics such as early childhood development, education, family care, poverty, and wellness, along with a unique focus on media and tech reporting that has been a hallmark of Common Sense Media across all their work.

Common Sense Media is a national nonprofit dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. Common Sense’s education program provides teachers and schools with free, research-based resources to help students harness the power of technology for learning and life. Their widely used Digital Citizenship Curriculum teaches students the skills and dispositions to think critically, behave responsibly, and participate ethically online. This grant will support the organization as it aims to make digital citizenship an important component of K-12 American education by: (a) updating and enhancing the Digital Citizenship Curriculum’s content and mode of delivery; (b) amplifying youth and community voice to inform the work; and (c) measuring the impact of the curriculum through a third-party program evaluation.
