Overview
This grant would continue support for the 3rd Street Youth Center and Clinic, which offers teen pregnancy prevention services in a comprehensive youth center in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point District, one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area. This community leads the city in violence, unemployment, poverty, rates of sexually transmitted infections, and environmental and safety hazards; its teen pregnancy rate is more than twice that of the rest of the city. In the coming year, the Youth Center will continue to reach more teens and begin to recommend IUDs and implants, the most effective contraceptive methods, as an important strategy to further reduce teen pregnancy. The Youth Center will also develop its next three-year strategic plan, launch a support group for teen mothers using the promising Teen Success model, and focus on internal capacity building for technology and communications.
