Overview
This grant would complement other grants aimed at coal plant retirements. It focuses on developing and implementing best practices for natural gas production at the state level and the development of a low-carbon electric grid. The Fund would promote rules in fourteen states to secure better regulatory safeguards for shale gas development and a better understanding of the life-cycle carbon footprint of natural gas compared to coal. It would promote grid reforms in nine states leading to market reforms, technical investments in a smarter grid, and policies that promote greater renewable energy penetration.
