Overview
A current Hewlett grantee, the Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI) is a foundation working throughout California to support individual artists. In early 2009 CCI was supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission and San Francisco Grants for the Arts to develop a quick-turn-around means of distributing small grants to artists, employees and volunteers individuals at Bay Area non profits seeking professional development assistance. With project support (and significant support expected from the James Irvine Foundation), CCI will expand this TA program to provide up to 200 $1000 scholarships to emerging arts professionals enabling them to take classes, attend workshops, travel to conferences and strengthen their skills and build their professional networks. This investment, in addition to the creation of a robust database on the region’s emerging arts professionals, will support a program strategy to bolster the organizational effectiveness of our current grantees and to increase the likelihood that arts organizations in the state will have a qualified stream of skilled managers going forward.

for the Vallejo Arts Fund
The Center for Cultural Innovation is a California-based arts service organization that promotes knowledge sharing and skill building. With offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the organization provides monetary grants, technical assistance, and research capacity for innovative projects that improve the practices, policies, and systems of support for artists and the arts sector. The goal of the Vallejo Arts Fund is to support arts and culture in the city of Vallejo by addressing systemic and economic inequities impacting local artists and culture bearers. In its initial round of grantmaking, the fund supported 60 Vallejo artists and organizations across five grant categories; the grant design, outreach, proposal, and review processes were all led by local community members. Support for the Vallejo Arts Fund advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
