Overview
Founded in 1977, Frameline is one the world’s leading distributors of films made by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender filmmakers and presents an annual festival of LGBT films to over 60,000 Bay Area audience members each summer. The San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival includes high quality narrative, documentary, animated and short-subject films made by local and international LGBT filmmakers. With a third general operating support grant, Frameline will pursue new community engagement programs to increase the diversity of its festival audiences, will continue its work as the leading distributor of LGBT films to educational institutions, and will work towards fully eliminating its operating deficit under the leadership of a new executive director ($135,000/2; 5% of budget).

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Frameline is the longest running exhibitor of films made by LGBTQ+ filmmakers, and a leading distributor and provider of filmmaker support. Each year, its flagship San Francisco film festival attracts 40,000 in-person attendees, engages over 100 community partners, and features approximately 150 films. In addition, Frameline provides year-round programs that engage audiences in the Bay Area and beyond, support filmmakers, and promote school safety through a nationwide youth program. This grant to Frameline advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
