Overview
The goal of this project is to help promote a large-scale decarbonization of passively held capital in U.S. retirement plans. The World Resources Institute aims to increase the capacity and willingness of carefully selected public and private retirement plans to invest in high-quality, Paris Climate Agreement-aligned, ESG passive equity products. In the case of defined contribution plans, the aim is for plans to incorporate these product(s) into default options. This would capitalize on the power of the default option to drive capital toward sustainable investments and harness the growing desire of thousands of U.S. workers to invest their retirement funds in sustainable options. Grants to this Grantee
for U.S.-EU Track II Dialogues
World Resources Institute is a global think tank focused on protecting nature and stabilizing climate. This grant will fund the continuation of the series of Track II climate dialogues between senior nongovernmental advisors and former senior leaders from the U.S and the European Union. These talks provide the opportunity to raise and address issues in less formal forums and build understanding of potential climate policy options. The project will work with actors from across the political spectrum, with the aim of building ambition on both sides of the Atlantic. This grant will support convening and analysis. (Substrategy: Multilateral)
for U.S. Climate programs
The World Resources Institute pursues systemic change that benefits people, nature, and climate together. As the world’s top economy and the largest historical greenhouse gas emitter, it sees U.S. global climate leadership as critical. To ensure the U.S. reaches its climate goals, the organization prioritizes the successful implementation of federal climate investments, advances a broad suite of innovative industrial and carbon dioxide removal technologies, and is developing frameworks for people-centered transitions. To these ends, the institute is collaborating to develop a workable roadmap to establish a more resilient critical minerals supply chain, focused on domestic sourcing. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
for encouragement of ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions
The World Resources Institute (WRI) is a global think tank focused on protecting nature and stabilizing climate. Through this project, WRI will seek to encourage ambitious commitments from nations, coined National Determined Contributions, as they work to meet the goals of the U.N. Climate Convention and keep temperature rise in check. (Substrategy: Multilateral)
