Overview
This grant to Coalition for Green Capital (CGC) for general operating support will help the organization further its mission to halt climate change by accelerating investment in clean energy technologies. CGC plans to achieve this by advocating for, creating, and implementing Green Bank finance institutions. Green Banks are a proven finance model that uses public and philanthropic funds to mobilize private investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other decarbonization technologies. Through the advancement of this work, CGC is helping to move countries around the world at the federal, state, and local levels toward meeting the commitments of the Paris Agreement. Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
The Coalition for Green Capital works with states and other jurisdictions to identify obstacles to clean energy market growth, and helps set up financial mechanisms that deploy financing for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. This grant will provide general operating support to the organization for carrying out its core functions, including helping states develop "green banks" — institutions that provide low-cost, long-term financing support for low-carbon projects — and leveraging public funds to attract private investment.
for strategic and organizational planning
Provide resources to support the development of a strategic plan. The Coalition for Green Capital (CGC) is the primary resource for agencies looking to develop "Green Banks." CGC provides technical support to states and cities in the US, as well as increasingly abroad to create public Green Banks that promote low emission business models. The model was built around supporting rooftop solar in Connecticut and New York but has expended to a host of sectors in over 15 states and cities. They have also received requests for assistance from countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. The strategic plan will inform where they will offer support and help to define their business plan.
