Overview
The Santa Cruz County Symphony Association was established in 1959 and currently presents an 8 concert season in downtown Santa Cruz and a matinee series at Watsonville's Mello Center. One of thirteen regional symphonies supported by the Hewlett Foundation, the symphony sells approximately 7,000 tickets each year and employs freelance musicians to play a classical repertoire including Schubert, Haydn and Mendelssohn in the year ahead. The symphony also presents live music in over 60 Santa Cruz area classrooms each year. An enduring feature of the performing arts landscape in Santa Cruz, the symphony will consider merging with the Santa Cruz Youth Orchestra, with whom it already collaborates, to reduce operating costs and continued support will support its exploration and implementation of this potential merger ($35,000/1, 5% of budget; TIE OFF)
